The EU-U.S. Privacy Shield, on July 12, 2016, was adopted by the European Commission, establishing a data transfer mechanism between the two regions. The EU data protection authorities indicated in a recent statement that they will hold off for at least one year on any new challenges to the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield. The U.S. Department of Commerce launched its Privacy Shield website where organizations can begin self-certifying to Shield on 1 Aug. CARCO has been diligently working with counsel to be prepared to certify as soon as possible after August 1. Addendums to existing contracts between CARCO and our clients may be required to attest to the provisions of Privacy Shield and those will be sent out in the coming months. Feel free to contact your CARCO representative if you have any questions about Privacy Shield.
